2011 Fall Honey Harvest at Wake Robin
and a visit to Clare in Martha's Vineyard;
Heritage Lane fall block party

The Hives @ Wake Robin, 2011 season...
This summer's supply of honey was small throughout Vermont.
Well, as we live in Vermont, sure enough. It was small for Bill Ross and me!

Extracting the honey frames to see which we could take, and which we should leave for the bees to eat over the winter to survive.

Using the decapping tool to take the wax cappings off the cells of honey.

This is about 1/3 of our haul for the year. About 5 pounds of honey.
In total about 20 pounds of honey all taken from just one of Bill's hives - the five other hives were too lean to take any honey ;(

A beekeeper friend Bob S. wrote me:
Sorry about the low yield.  Mine is low this year too.
I haven't extracted yet but the honey supers are off the hives and in my house.
I also heard of a semi-commercial beekeeper in Bennington who got
800 lbs last year and only 80 lbs this year - ugh!
